Gary Cahill Optimistic on Returning for World Cup
Gary Cahill has been out due to a blood clot.
Although first diagnosed as a clot in his arm that led to swelling of the arm, the underlying cause was a rare defect in which his top rib and collarbone were so close together and were squeezing his arteries and vein.
“The slightest knock could have sent the clot travelling towards my brain, lung or heart,” he said. “Potentially, it could have been life-threatening. That’s how serious it might have been – I could have been in real trouble.”
After a surgery to remove one of his ribs, Cahill is ready to get back in the game.
The Bolton Wanderer player was initially sentenced to six months of recovery, but the operation was a success and the forecast was shortened to only six weeks.
“It’s all about getting fit and concentrating on my form for Bolton.
“If I can get back playing and pick up where I left off then you never know what might happen with England.”
